The main purpose of this study was to determine some factors that affect the level of Science Education literacy of first year students of Magarao – Bombon District, S/Y 2001-2002. Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions: 1) what is the level of science education literacy of the students along curiosity, open mindedness, careful judgment and objectivity? 2) What home and teacher factors significantly associate with science Education literacy? 3) Is there a significant difference in the level of science education literacy among parameters and among schools?

The descriptive-comparative and associational methods were used in this study. The subjects were 270 First year high school students of Magarao-Bombon District for s/y 2001-2002, composed of 133 male and 137 female. A teacher made test was used in gathering data in the level of Science Education literacy of students along curiosity, careful judgment, open mindedness and objectivity.

The major conclusions of this study were: 1) Students had an average learning along curiosity, open mindedness, careful judgment and objectivity. 2) Home factors such as fathers' education and occupation were significantly associated with Science Education literacy and the family income and number of children within the family partially associated; however, mothers' education and occupation were not significantly associated with Science Education literacy. Teacher factors such as educational attainment, teaching experience in teaching Science and Technology 1 and in-service trainings or seminars attended were not significantly associated with the Science education literacy. 3) There were significant differences among level of literacy among parameters and among schools.
